Rain for 3 days made me really appreciate the sun when it returned. And then I noticed that the higher elevations had received snow already!
More precipitation is expected next week. But I'm told this is unusual for this area. They've suffered drought long enough that their expectations are low for snow, let alone rain.
Considering I'm at 6400 feet elevation, I'm surprised there is so little color yet on all these green trees. But I'm enjoying seeing the elevations over 10,000 feet having snow. The first snows often fell in St. Louis MO around Halloween, and even in Hartford CT where I lived a few years. First snows were really later in the mountains around Black Mountain NC. So I expected some earlier here.
But the expectations according to what's happened for the last few decades have been thrown out the climate change windows!
Rainstorms off and on for three days kept me happily homebound. I have no good water-proof shoes. Lots of things that are comfortable, and even snow boots, but somehow everything soaks up or is perforated to let my tootsies get wet. OK, I'll go shoe shopping, when it stops raining! Something like fix the roof, eh?
A regular visit from my friendly bucket-truck when it stopped pouring...or two visits~! Or three! I have reached my limit of interest in watching these guys doing such dull and obtuse chores.
When the rain stops, there's fog coming and going.
Well, I'll take the blame...I must have brought the North Carolina damp along with me, while really trying to dry out so I could breathe better. I've been breathing pretty well, still using oxygen though. But I am able to walk around further already! (after 3 months!) Now if only other parts of this old body would heal up and let me feel like enjoying life more!
Some days I get the message that this is as good as it gets...so get on with doing the best I can!
Like all the cooking has suddenly become interesting to me. Whew, lunch yesterday started with thawing some pre-cooked shrimp...then getting out some pasta, garlic, butter, and pans and mixing up a scampi substitute. It was lower fat, because I made a garlicy roux with some cornstarch, with just 3 tablespoons of butter...and took the tails off the shrimps when they had thawed. Then I remembered I hadn't unpacked a colander to drain the angel hair, so had to shift the shrimp into the roux to heat so I could use that strainer to drain the pasta! Then thumped the pasta into the sauce, swirled it around a bit, and got 2 servings...one of which I enjoyed right away.
Much better than peanut butter and jelly on toast. Which reminds me I need to bake bread today...
I hope you have a good Friday today, as well as a weekend of wonder and joy!

The snow, fog, and sun on the mountains is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI was about to ask about your breathing progress, and I'm glad to hear it's coming along. I imagine that rain is very welcome, since dryness is a perennial issue in the West.
ReplyDeleteLove the views of Colorado, it is nice to see the sunshine, pretty views of the mountains. It is good to hear you can walk further now. Take care, have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou got a little bit of color going on. I hear you on climate change. Tulsa's fall weather is very mild sometimes even past Thanksgiving. We used to get our first snow in the first half of November but not any longer.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see you finding joy in the little things! I hope the sunshine returns soon. Visiting from Skywatch Friday.
ReplyDeleteSuch changeable weather! And all of it rather dramatic looking.
ReplyDeleteYes. Get some good boots!
Glad to hear that the move was just what you needed.
ReplyDeleteI have no knowledge of what is "typical" weather in Colarado.... but rain or sunshine.... it does look very beautiful! I have never lived in a mountainous region, and it is quite beautiful from your photos. It is strange, but the very small number of times when I was in a mountainous region.... it felt a bit "disorienting" to me.... it sort of felt akin to a wall being up and blocking my vision (I am TOO used to "FLAT" I guess). :)

Durango looks pretty. I like seeing those snow-capped mountains!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this beautiful post and for your companionship which is very tangible to me. My husband passed Wednesday. I held his hands for hours and I filled his hand grow cold in mine at the end. It's been a year from hell and also a year of blessings. As I start my new life. I reach out to you with Aloha and thank you
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss, hope you are ok xxx
DeleteBeautiful scenery, reminds me of parts of New Zealand. The snow on the mountain tops is what we see on the mountains here if we travel 30 minutes south to the next town of Hokitika, have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour shrimp dish sounds delicious despite the juggling of dishes. I also had about 3/4 of a pound of shrimp last night and made a pasta dish from a recipe I saw online. My own recipe in my head it much more flavorful. I don't know why I fall for those "other" recipes.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find some cute DRY shoes or boots for wet weather!
Good to.hear of your progress!
