I LOVE honey! Preferably raw, un-pasturized.
I do put a spoonful in each cup of coffee or tea that I drink, so I consume around 3-4 teaspoons of honey daily.
So on my quicky trip to see fall color a few weeks ago, I was interested in the sign saying it was 8 miles further along the highway.
I didn't find the queen, but enjoyed watching the bees busy about their bee-lives.
They've become more creative than just mead.
With all the jams, sauces, and whipped honey products, they have quite a lot of things to consider. I did taste their raw honey, and purchased a jar. I think I want to go back for more soon, in case they close during the winter (I hope not).

Now to start calling my senators and representatives...I feel like getting involved a bit more for now in political issues.

The moment we choose to love we begin to move against domination, against oppression. The moment we choose to love we begin to move towards freedom, to act in ways that liberate ourselves and others. |
BELL HOOKS |
I am allergic to bee stings, so most of my life I have been wary - not afraid, but wary. Until I worked in a walled garden with an apiary and no bee keepers, so I trained with one other staff member to be able to do enough until we could get a full team of beeks (our term) so I could step back. I kept very much in the loop only avoiding the actual involvement of the bees themselves and learnt so much about them. I have a healthy (but still wary) respect for them. I would to visit your Honeyville CO
ReplyDeleteThey’ve made something creative out of beekeeping.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this sweet post, it was a buzz.
ReplyDeleteInteresting place to visit. And the best part -- voting and planning on being active in the politics of your new home. Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteBees, glorious bees! Alas, as a diabetic, I've had to give up delicious honey on toast.

Those light fixtures are adorable! Wow- so many honey products. I love honey and am disappointed that most of my grandchildren do not prefer it. I remember the first time I bought honey butter for toast - and none of them would eat it.
I was first introduced to bee keeping by grove owner in central Florida. The bees were a valuable part of citrus growing. Pretty amazing process.
ReplyDeleteEvery time my youngest grandchild comes over he wants a peanut butter, honey, and raisin sandwich. I am not shy with the honey and he loves them.
Did you ever seen the movie "Ulee's Gold"? Check it out if you haven't. It was filmed in this area and Peter Fonda played a beekeeper who gathered tupelo honey.
